We all love junk food, whether we eat some once in a while, or whether we eat it every single day. Be that as it may, what happens when you stop indulging in junk food for a few days? Does sadness start kicking in? Do you feel more irritable? Do you suddenly start feeling more tired? Do you start craving different things all at the same time? What does this phenomena qualify under? Is it an addiction, is it a habit or is it just a desire? In this segment, Dr. Oommen discusses a new research describing what happens when people stop eating highly processed foods.  Some might compare it to when a person stops smoking, others compare it to alcohol and drugs. Here Dr. Oommen talks about how junk food withdrawal is actually proven to be like cocaine withdrawal. So fascinating!

Dr. Oommen often says: “Why do individuals eat when they’re not hungry? If we answer that question, we’ve unlocked the secret to weightloss.” The context of this new McGill University study takes us back 20 years ago, where it was proven that intensive lifestyle modification -one on one diet & exercise coaching- could help lose weight and prevent diabetes. However, that concept is intensive and expensive, which is why researchers at McGill University came out with a new, group lifestyle program concept, that just might be more beneficial overall.
